Image-Making Within The Writing Process:
Crafting Collage Stories
Workshop

This two- or three-day workshop is designed to provide teachers with an experiential understanding of how collage made from hand-painted textured papers can become a dynamic vehicle for discovering, developing, and expressing story.

Teachers will create their own portfolios of hand-painted textured papers, weave story ideas that grow out of their beautiful papers, and construct a sequence of collage images to create story. Specific techniques will be modeled to draw rich language from collage images. Classroom mini-lessons, modeling practices, and management tips will be woven throughout the training.

As author/illustrators, participants will observe their own creative process as their stories literally take shape. They will also experience the dynamic visual and kinesthetic thinking that occurs throughout this process. Integration into other content areas will be discussed.
